Why the second core matters so much
The second core is not a 100% speed increase; it is an increase in the ability to do things at once. With one core, any heavy process blocks everything else — start a backup or an update and the site slows for every visitor. With two, the system keeps room to breathe.
In practice that means:
- you can run a site, a database, and cron jobs together without visible stalls
- system updates do not take the service down
- short traffic spikes are absorbed far better
And 8 GB of RAM means you can run a database, a cache such as Redis, and a web server without daily memory anxiety.

Specifications do not settle this; one question does: do you want to run a server? If yes, KVM 2 gives you freedom and stated resources for one extra dollar. If no, Cloud Startup gives you daily backups, a ready panel, and peace of mind.
Note the backup difference: daily there, weekly here. On a server you administer yourself that gap is more dangerous, because human error is part of the job. Arrange your own backups.

KVM 2 is the server we recommend most often: two cores and eight gigabytes cover most of what a developer needs, and the post-promo price stays reasonable in a way shared plans do not.
